Full Schedule: 2024 Western States Regional Championships & Speed Skating Camp

Wednesday

  • 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm - pre-camp reception dinner at Hyatt Regency Hotel, 24500 Town Center Drive, Valencia (open to all)

Thursday and Friday

  • 6:30 am to 7:00 am - Stretching on the Rose Garden lawn at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 24500 Town Center Drive, Valencia (Hyatt guests only).
  • 7:00 am to 8:00 am - Breakfast at the Hotel Restaurant or at any city restaurant between the Hotel and the Cube (open to all).
  • 8:00 am to 8:30 am - Travel to  the Cube, 27745 Smyth Drive, Valencia  (Shuttle cars will be available from the Hyatt).
  • 8:30 am to 4:30 pm - Regular Camp Events will be held at the Cube (lunch will be available for a reasonable price at the Cube's restaurant or box lunches may be purchased from the Hotel Restaurant each morning).
  • The Camp - At the Cube (subject to change at the camp leaders' discretion): 

    Dryland (warm up)            8:30 am   -  8:45 am

    Ice (Olympic surface)    9:00 am  - 10:30 am

    Dryland                            10:30 am - 11:45 am

    Lunch Break                    11:45 am  -  1:00 pm

    Dryland                            1:00 pm   -  1:45 pm

    Ice (Olympic surface)   2:00 pm  -  3:00 pm

    Dryland                            3:00 pm  -  4:00 pm

    Cool Down                       4:00 pm  -  4:30 pm

  • 4:30 pm to 5:00 pm - Return to the Hotel.
  • 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm - Thursday: TBD. 
  • 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm - Friday: Camp and Pre-Meet Banquet at the Hotel (open to all campers, meet competitors, and their families - $ TBD). 
  • 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm - Thursday: Dinner at the Hotel or at one of the many surrounding city restaurants (BJ's is across the street from the Hotel).
  • 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm - Outdoor fun activities at the Hotel pool and Rose Garden every night, including poolside children's movies at the Hotel on Friday and/or Saturday (free for Hyatt guests; $25 for campers and meet participants not staying the the Hotel).
  • A possibility for everyone, whether or not they are staying at the Hotel, might be to have a fun evening of miniature golf and go-cart racing at MB2 Entertainment in Santa Clarita on Thursday night.

Saturday Morning: At the Hotel

  • Free time to prepare for the afternoon competition.
  • Stretching exercises and skate sharpening demonstrations will be held on the Hyatt Rose Garden lawn throughout the morning (Hyatt guests only).
  • The Hyatt's pool will accommodate all guests needing to do some water related muscle recovery and stretching activities prior to the afternoon competition (Hyatt guests only).
  • Last-minute racing rules will be presented before leaving the Hotel for the Cube.
  • 11:30 am to noon - Travel to the Cube (Shuttle cars will be available).

Saturday Afternoon: At the Cube

  • Noon to 1:00 pm - Check-in for pre-registered skaters
  • 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm - Warm ups on the ice and the Opening Ceremonies
  • 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm - Western States Regional Championships Racing (Head Referee - Linlin Sun)
  • 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm - Awards Ceremony
  • 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm - Travel back to the Hotel.

Saturday Evening: At the Hotel

  • 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm - Dinner at the Hotel or at one of the many surrounding city restaurants
  • 8:00 pm to 10 pm - TBD

Sunday

Free day!    Extend your stay for the same discounted price you paid to stay at the Hotel during the Camp and Championships.

Suggestions

  • Attend a Church Service at one of Santa Clarita's great churches.
  • Attend a public speed skating session at the Rinks - Lakewood (8:30 am to 10 am) in the Long Beach area ($15)
  • Go to Magic Mountain Six Flags in Santa Clarita.
  • Enjoy Universal Studios in Century City.
  • Depending on interest, a group Tour of the Stars and shopping on Rodeo Drive can be arranged with the tour bus picking up and dropping off at the Hotel.

Surf at one of our beaches, visit one of our museums (such as the Getty Museum in LA, the Getty Villa in Malibu, the Natural History Museum or the California Science Center in Exposition Park near USC, the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, the La Brea Tar Pits, The Museum of Modern Arts in LA, just to name a few), stroll through the Huntington Gardens in San Marino, and lots of other options.
