A 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization

Santa Clarita Speed Skating Club (SCSSC) is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organziaton.

All membership fees, donations, fundraising proceeds, the occasional grants, and funds raised through our CafePress Web Store are allocated to securing dedicated ice time, acquiring skating gear and safety equipment.

SCSSC also participates in Ralph's Community Contribution and Food4Less Community Rewards Programs—where a percentage of your spending helps the Club.

Full year-round program

We welcome you and your child to one of our practice sessions to see if this is a sport for you. It's free to try. Our program runs all year.

Our youngest skater is 5 years old and our nationally competitive skaters are mostly in their teens. We also allow adult skaters to participate.

During our practices, we separate the skaters by ability, age, and size, ranging from beginners to world champions.

Let us know your shoe size and which date you would like to take advantage of your free skating tryout.

Skates & Equipment

We have enough skates to accommodate several new skaters at a time. It is required to wear a helmet, gloves, long sleves. No shorts. If you already have skates and a favorite bicycle helmet, by all means bring them. Our equipment is provided on a first-come, first-serve basis. In the event we run out of equipment, the ice rink allows you to rent a pair of their general public skates for our sessions. Hockey skaters are welcome, and hockey skates are perfectly fine to start with to get introduced to speed skating.

Attire

Most of our advanced skaters wear their speed skating attire (called "skin suits") for practice, but this is completely optional. Newer skaters who don't own speed skating attire usually just wear long and comfortable pants or sweatpants with a long sleeve t-shirt or light jacket. Yoga pants and workout tops work well also. Just keep in mind that the tempature on the ice is, well, cold. A zip-up hoodie (like this one on our web store) is handy to have available. Bring your own gloves as they are mandatoy. Snug-fitting gloves, like the ones used for soccer or baseball, work perfectly well.
